Bamberg, South Carolina (April 2024)—The spirit of community collaboration shone brightly on Saturday, March 30th, as Bamberg County Councilman Dr. Jonathan Goodman, Denmark City Councilmembers Calvin Odom and Rosa James, and Denmark Mayor Gerald Wright spearheaded a highly successful neighborhood cleanup initiative. With the dedicated support of Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Board Members and Program Director Alisha Moore, the event marked a significant milestone in fostering a cleaner and more vibrant community for residents.

 

The cleanup effort, held in Denmark, South Carolina, was a resounding success, with an impressive turnout of enthusiastic volunteers despite the Easter holiday. United in their commitment to enhancing the beauty of their shared spaces, they embarked on a mission to rid the community of litter and debris, transforming streets and green areas into pristine havens for all to enjoy.

 

District 5 Bamberg County Councilman Dr. Jonathan Goodman expressed his gratitude for the community’s involvement, stating, “It’s heartening to witness the collective determination of our residents to safeguard the cleanliness of our neighborhoods. By working together, we demonstrate our unwavering dedication to preserving the natural splendor of Denmark.”

 

Throughout the day, participants tirelessly collected 49 bags of trash, removed tires, and cleared house siding, totaling over an impressive 380 pounds of waste. Their efforts not only beautified the landscape but also contributed to environmental conservation, promoting sustainability for future generations.

 

Mayor Gerald Wright commended the collaborative spirit that characterized the event and emphasized its broader significance for the community. “Our success today reflects the strength of our unity and underscores the importance of active citizenship in fostering positive change. I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together,” Mayor Wright remarked.

 

In addition to local officials, the event was supported by dedicated members of the Keep Bamberg County Beautiful board, along with Program Director Alisha Moore, who also praised the collaborative spirit of the event, noting, “the success of today’s cleanup is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together,” Moore stated.
