Re:     Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Spearheads Successful Clean-up in Tornado Aftermath

Bamberg, South Carolina (January 2024) – Resilient, Resourceful, and Active…

Keep Bamberg County Beautiful (KBCB) and Bamberg County Public Information Officer Alisha Moore coordinated a successful community clean-up last Friday.

To help with the ongoing tornado clean-up effort, 40 volunteers from various public sectors gathered on Calhoun Street to collect 60 bags of trash, which may not appear remarkable to some, but actually captures the true spirit of Bamberg County: one of resilience, resourcefulness, and action. As devastating as the aftermath of the Category EF-2 tornado has been to Bamberg County residents, business owners, and leaders, this spunky community refuses to allow that to define, deter, or discourage them.

The impressive group of volunteers included:

  • County Councilman Larry Haynes, District 3
  • The Denmark Technical College Basketball Team
  • All for One Bike Club
  • Edisto Electric
  • Bamberg Health Coalition
  • SaltCatcher Farms
  • KBCB Board Members
  • Bamberg Disability and Special Needs Board
  • Bamberg County Board of Public Works

When asked why it was so important to venture outside of his district to participate in the Calhoun Street Clean-up, Councilman Larry Haynes said, “Bamberg has always been a family and always will be. When one of us hurts, we all hurt. I was simply doing my part to help my family.”

Bamberg County Public Information Officer Alisha Moore, who recently made Bamberg her home, reflected on how, despite the odds against them, no one should ever “count Bamberg County out.” She added, “It’s in the toughest times that a community can show not just the rest of the country but also themselves what they’re made of. And in this moment following the devastation of an EF-2 tornado, Bamberg County has clearly demonstrated how a united community can persevere. That spirit makes me proud to call the ever-resilient Bamberg home.”
