Re: Evert Comer, Jr. and Clint Carter Become the 2024 Bamberg County Council and Vice Chairman

Bamberg, South Carolina (January 2024) – During the January 8 County Council meeting, District 6’s Evert Comer, Jr. and District 7’s Clint Carter were appointed 2024 Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively.

Outgoing Chairman Dr. Jonathan Goodman passed the gavel to his successor, Mr. Evert Comer, Jr., who served as the 2023 Vice Chairman. After Chairman Comer’s appointment, the Council also voted unanimously to appoint Councilman Clint Carter as the 2024 Vice Chair.

On behalf of the entire County Council and Administration, Mr. Comer presented Dr. Goodman with a plaque of appreciation for his distinguished service as the 2023 Chairman. During Goodman’s tenure, Bamberg County enjoyed several victories, including the grand opening and dedication of Veterans Park as well as the Ed Darnell Law Enforcement Center, the Veterans Affairs Office, and the Health Department (all housed in the former hospital). Additionally, the Bamberg County Council and administration secured federal grants to expand broadband internet and improve water quality for their constituents.

Dr. Goodman stated he was “honored to serve as Chairman during such a pivotal year in Bamberg’s economic development” and looks forward to continuing to serve his constituents in District 5. He added, “Bamberg has a bright future.”

Newly appointed Chairman Comer said he looks forward to serving in this new role. Despite the challenges, Bamberg County will surely face this year, particularly in the aftermath of last Tuesday’s Category E-F 2 tornado, he has “faith in Bamberg County as one of the most resilient communities in the state and fully believes that Bamberg will continue to boom and come back stronger than ever.”

*The roles of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Bamberg County Council are annually rotated among the seven Councilmembers.
