Bamberg, South Carolina (March 2018) – At the March 5, 2018 Bamberg County Council meeting, Councilwoman Sharon Hammond introduced a resolution titled, “Nevertheless, She Persisted: Honoring Women Who Fight All Forms of Discrimination against Women.” Hammond introduced the resolution at the March County Council meeting because the month of March is designated as National Women’s History Month. This designation was approved by the United States Congress in 1987.

Councilwoman Hammond stated, “All of the women in this room are standing on the shoulders of those who came before us. We still have strides to make but we should be proud of our progress. Look around and shake the hand of the woman nearest you. Women are excelling in practically every area as men. Bamberg County thanks all the women who serve as elected officials and the female employees who work in government, healthcare, education, corporations, and every other industry that supports our local and national economies.”
