Re:     Bamberg County to Celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution and Host South Carolina 250 Vice Chairman Bill Davies

Bamberg, South Carolina (November 2023) – On November 20, 2023 at 6 p.m., Bamberg County Council will welcome the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission (SC250) Vice Chairman Bill Davies at the Bamberg County Courthouse Annex at 1234 North Street, Bamberg, SC. Mr. Davies will share the vision of SC250 in an effort to recruit Bamberg County committee members who will work with the commission to plan a future event(s) to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. The meeting is free and open to the public, and all citizens interested in honoring South Carolina’s rich history are encouraged to attend.

The purpose of SC250 is to celebrate the 250th anniversary era (1770-1783) of the Revolutionary War and educate South Carolinians and visitors about the state’s pivotal role in the nation’s independence. Governor McMaster hopes all 46 South Carolina counties will form a committee and plan their own unique event(s) to personalize this effort to honor SC history.

Davies has served on the Board of Managers for the South Carolina Historical Society and as President of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History Foundation as well as the Palmetto State Military History Foundation. “South Carolina had a significant role in securing our nation’s freedom, and Bamberg County is part of that storied history,” said Davies.

Bamberg County Council Chairman Dr. Jonathan Goodman said, “This initiative is near and dear to my heart as an educator, and I am excited for Bamberg County to partner with the SC250 Commission to ignite a passion and enthusiasm for our state’s historic role in the American Revolution.”

“One of the most important things we can do as a community is to not only understand our history but to also learn from it. Without courageous South Carolinians, who sought the basic tenets of freedom and were willing to sacrifice their lives to obtain it, our nation would not be what it is today. Bamberg County is honored to have this opportunity to put a spotlight on that bravery,” said County Administrator Joey Preston.
