Re:     Bamberg County Council Attends Denmark Tech's Annual Gala

Bamberg, South Carolina (February 2023) – On February 2, 2024, Denmark Technical College (DTC) held its President’s Legacy Scholarship Gala and recognized their inaugural Alumni Hall of Fame inductees, which included Bamberg County natives Ms. Betty Dowling and Richard Freeman. Bamberg County Council Chairman Evert Comer, Jr., Councilman Larry Haynes, Administrator Joey Preston, Deputy Administrator Thomas Thomas,  HR Director Ruthie Brown, IT Director Chip Maier, Public Information Officer Alisha Moore, and Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Chairwoman Nina Haynes joined the celebration.

In addition to the Alumni Hall of Fame Induction, the night was filled with fellowship, dancing, good food, and student testimonials. Bamberg County Council has participated in several of the DTC Legacy Scholarship Galas over the years and was thrilled to participate again this year. Chairman Evert Comer, Jr. presented the County's annual donation to DTC President Dr. Willie Todd.

“Bamberg County Council appreciates Denmark Tech, and we are so thankful their doors are still open to educate and train our students. Congratulations to the Alumni Hall of Fame inductees and scholarship recipients. We are always happy to support them in any possible way,” said  County Chairman Evert Comer, Jr.

Councilman Larry Haynes echoed Chairman Comer’s sentiment: “Not so long ago, we thought Denmark Technical College’s doors would be shuttered, but here we are today celebrating some impressive scholars and community leaders. The County Council is honored to support the preservation of the rich history and legacy of Denmark Tech.”

County Administrator Joey Preston said he cannot express how important Bamberg County’s partnership with Denmark Tech is: “The success of Denmark Tech is paramount to the success of the entire Bamberg County community. The College provides students with invaluable skills and knowledge, and we all know that a community’s economic success is intricately connected to the education and training of its citizens.”
