Department Functions:

• Register all qualified Bamberg County citizens to vote.
• Determine qualifications of all applicants and assign proper voting precinct and voting districts.
• Issue new/duplicate voter registration certificates.
• Certify copies of registration records.
• Maintain county voter registration records to the State Election Commission.
• Provide absentee voting services. The office acts as Absentee Precinct for all federal, state and local elections held in the county.
• Validate signatures from petitions for candidates, political parties and request for referenda.

Voter Registration Questions and Answers

1. What form of ID must I bring to get registered in person?

Documents include driver's license/ photo ID issued by the Highway Department, electric bill, telephone bill, bank statement, check stub, tax receipt, etc. Documents need to show current residence (E911) address in the county.

2. Do I have to register by party?

No, you do not register by party in S.C. The law requires that to vote in a primary election, the voter must choose one political party in which to cast his/her ballot. By voting in a party's primary, the voter is selecting representatives to run in the general election for that political party.

3. Can I register if I was convicted of a felony?

You can register to vote again after you have served all time, including probation, for a conviction of a felony or crimes against the election laws of S.C.

4. What form of ID must I show at the polls on election day?

One of the following must be presented to the manager:

• Valid Voter Registration Certificate
• Valid S.C. Driver's License
• Identification card containing a photograph issued by the Hwy. Dept.
