Building Permit and Mobile Home Permit Information Print E-mail

The Bamberg County Assessor shall issue, upon payment of fees outlined herein, building permits for all new construction or additions to existing structures within the County. It shall be deemed that the intent of this Ordinance shall be met where such permit is secured from the clerk of a municipality where said structure lies within incorporated municipal boundaries and the municipality issues a permit and sends a copy of the record to the Assessor. Structures include, but are not limited to the following: houses, dwellings, porches, sheds, garages, barns, hog houses, grain bins, or any improvements on the real estate. Failure to obtain said permit before initiating construction shall cause the person or firm to be in violation of this section and a penalty of $100.00 shall be assessed by the County in addition to the appropriate fees for said structure. Fees will be based as listed:

Plan Review Fee:
Residential or Commercial
1/2 of permit fee (To be collected at time of plan submittal)

No permits will be issued for new construction or remodeling work in areas larger than 1,000 sq. ft. until plans have been reviewed. The review period will be seven working days for residential and fourteen for commercial. No work shall be started unless permission is obtained from the Building Inspector.

ATTENTION:

BAMBERG COUNTY WILL REQUIRE ALL MANUFACTURED HOMES BEING INSTALLED IN THE COUNTY TO BE INSTALLED BY A LICENSED INSTALLER WITH THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. A MOBILE HOME PERMIT WILL NOT BE ISSUED UNLESS A COPY OF THE INSTALLERS LICENSES IS ON FILE IN THE ASSESSOR'S OFFICE 0R A COPY IS FURNISHED.

New Construction or Remodeling

  • $I ,000 and less - $25.00
  • $I,001 to $50,000 - $25.00 for the 1st $1,000
    (+ $5 for each additional thousand or fraction thereof.)
  • $50,001 to $100,000 - $270 for the 1st $50,000
    (+ $4 for each additional thousand or fraction thereof.)
  • $100,001 to $500,000 - $470 for the 1st $100,000
    (+ $3 for each thousand or fraction thereof.)
  • $500,001 and up - $1,685 for the 1st $500,000
    (+ $2 for each additional thousand or fraction thereof.)
  • Moving Permit - $35.00 + Building Permit for cost to reinstall
  • Demolition Permit - $50.00
  • Swimming Pool Permit - $35.00
  • Electrical Meter Box Inspection - $25.00
  • Gas Meter Inspection - $25.00
  • Electric and Gas Meter Inspection - $35.00

The Assessor shall issue a numbered permit which shall contain the following information:

  • Name of owner
  • School district
  • Road number and rural post office box number
  • Estimated cast of construction
  • Estimated total area in square feet
  • Type of construction
  • Number of stories
  • Number of rooms
  • Use to be made of structure
  • Any other information as may be necessary to insure equitable assessment

It shall be unlawful for any electric utility or rural electric cooperative to make any new connection of electrical energy to a new building or facility requiring a permit unless proof of obtainment of a building permit is furnished.

The Bamberg County Assessor shall issue, upon payment of fees as outlined herein, permits for the location of mobile homes on properties within the county, said permits to be required over and above any permits or fees required by the State. The fees for a mobile home shall be $55.00 for single wide ($50.00 for the county - $5.00 for the state) and $80.00 for double wide ($75.00 for the county - $5.00 for the state). Penalties for failure to obtain said permit shall be $100.00, plus the appropriate fee. Applicable provisions as contained in Section 15 shall apply and in addition, the owner shall provide the name of manufacturer and model of the mobile home.
