Bamberg County Sheriff’s Department Hires Victim Advocate Coordinator

Bamberg, South Carolina (February 2018) – Bamberg County Sheriff’s Department announced that Kelly Jo Lawson was hired as the new Victim Advocate Coordinator. Lawson will be responsible for offering information and support to victims and witnesses of violent crimes, in addition to acting as an advocate for those in the criminal justice system.

                   

Lawson moved to Bamberg County from Charleston, where she worked for South Carolina Department of Natural Resources as the Permit Coordinator. Lawson received an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Midlands Technical College. Additional professional experience includes work with SC Department of Juvenile Justice and the Crossroads Center Postal Unit.

 

“We are pleased to have Ms. Lawson join our staff,” stated Sheriff Ed Darnell. “The Victim Advocate Coordinator fills an important role in supporting victims of crime. We are confident Ms. Lawson will be a valuable member of our team.”

 

Born and raised in Irmo, South Carolina, Lawson currently lives in Ehrhardt. “I love living in Ehrhardt; it is so peaceful and beautiful,” said Ms. Lawson. “I look forward to working for Bamberg County as the Victim Advocate Coordinator. The position is a great fit for my educational and professional background. I’m excited to get started and to serve Bamberg County citizens!”

 

Bamberg County welcomes Lawson; she begins work on February 12, 2018. She will be based in the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Department.
