Bamberg County Controller Appointed to NACO Finance Committee

Bamberg, South Carolina (September 2018) – On September 5, 2018, the National Association of Counties (NACo) announced that Gina Smith, Bamberg County Controller, was appointed to NACo’s Finance, Pensions, and Intergovernmental Affairs (FPIGA) Steering Committee.  NACo’s FPIGA Steering Committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to county finances, municipal bonds, property taxes, intergovernmental relations, census issues, and other matters relevant to county finances.

 

NACo is a national association that unites America’s 3,069 county governments with a vision to achieve healthy, vibrant, and safe counties. This organization represents nearly 40,000 county elected officials and more than 3.6 million county employees. NACo assists counties with policy advocacy, leadership training, civic engagement, in addition to providing guidance on other relevant issues faced by county-level government officials. NACo supports ten policy steering committees, including the FPIGA committee, that assist county-level government officials.

 

“Bamberg County is proud that Gina was appointed to this national level finance committee,” said Joey Preston, Bamberg County Administrator. “NACo is a very important organization for county governments and provides essential guidance on many problems faced by our local elected officials and county employees. Gina Smith is an extremely experienced professional in governmental accounting; she is an asset to Bamberg County and will be a valuable member of the NACo team.”

 

Ms. Smith is a Certified Public Accountant, a Chartered Global Management Accountant as well as a Certified Financial Planner who has worked in governmental management and finance over twenty years.  Ms. Smith has worked for Bamberg County since 2012. “I am honored to be appointed to NACo’s finance committee,” stated Ms. Smith. “I look forward to participating on this national committee, to learn from others, and to bring valuable information back to Bamberg County.”

 

Ms. Smith’s appointment was effective on September 5, 2018 and will run through July 31, 2019.
